Fall, Fog, and Friday

It's the first Friday
of Fall.

One of the best parts of Fall
are the colors of sunrises and sunsets,
foggy mornings, too.
Foggy mornings are quite mystic;
there is a muted silence all around.
It's very peaceful.

Quilting

The Quilter's Guild I belong to met this past week,
the program was about the pattern,
French Roses.
I bought this pattern years ago when I attended my first quilt show,
I liked it then and I like it now.
Haven't made it yet...
 (My how time flies.)
We were shown a few different ways you could expand on the pattern.
Great Fall Quilt idea!
Seeing the pattern again brings up a wishful longing to give this a try.
I love the T-shirt idea, too.
Isn't this cute!
A whole different way,
and I love the hearts!
(The quilter took the hearts and cut them into quarters and mixed the pieces to make a whole new heart.)
I love how it turned out!
French Hearts?
Paris Love?

Quilt time.

Just Hanging Around

Just hanging around...

Actually, Handsome Man has informed me that cattle will not
walk on the gravel.
Ummmmmm....Hmmmmmm...
Yeah right.
"Want to come out and play?"
or...
"Anybody home?"
Can't say that I blame them,
there is a little green on our side of the fence.
Oh, well...
we won't have to mow, & there is the fertilizer...

Tuesday Readers

I love Book Club.
We have such a good time together.

I found this, liked it, just can't remember where I found it.
So... if it's your's~you can have the credit.
My Book Friend gets the credit for these yummy cookies.
We always eat at Book Club;
and as you can see ~ we just about cleared the platter.
This is the book we read and discussed.
It was a pretty good discussion~lasted over 30 minutes!
We all agreed that the ending definitely left us uncomfortable.
Most did not like it~because we knew that this could really happen;
but we hoped not.

I can't say it was one of my favorites...
However, it did leave me thinking and thinking again.
I felt something.
And like it or not; that makes for a good book discussion.
Good or bad~this book left us thinking and talking.

Read it for yourself & let me know what you think...

Reading again,

Sunny Faces

Such Sunny,
Happy Faces!

Just looking at them makes a person smile.
It's hot and it's dry...
And still they look ahead and bloom.
They seem to florish with all the lack of rain.
Tough guys!
Perfect for the first Monday of Fall.

Corn Salsa

Corn Salsa
Ummmm, Hmmmmm...
This salad is sooooo yummy!
It's got a few of my favorite things.
Really...a lot of my favorite things.
I've acqulred a taste for Black Beans, they're pretty healthy, too.
And they make this salad have zing!
Use the above ingredients (four Roma tomatoes and two avocados)
& a good helping of cilantro with
a dash of garlic salt and lemon juice.  (I used 8 oz. of the Italian dressing).
Serve with some Bite Size Tostitos.

Just salsa,

PHS Alumni Dinner

Dear Ol' Perry High...
our school song...
Ummmm Hmmmm,
makes me smile.
We are members of our PHS Alumni Association.
Yes~Handsome Man and I were (and still are...) high school sweethearts.
Ahhhhhhh.
It's a great way to stay connected with our classmates and friends.
This was the 8th Annual Honor Roll Banquet;
we had dinner and enjoyed some great music and watched PHS Alumni honored for their achievements and inducted into the Honor Roll.
Five alum's were inducted and their lists of
achievements were many.
For a small rural community, Small Town America,
we have a lot to be proud of!
(I mean these people have done and are doing some pretty amazing things!)
((Nasa, Major hospitals across the nation, community leaders, educators...))
We are the Perry Maroons!
Perry Maroons ~ the only Maroons!
(Don't ask me what a "maroon" is~ we just are.)
((Period.))
The decorations are great!
Local students decorated the walls with signs welcoming the Alumni.
I love art work done by kids!

Yes, we love our school and Maroon!
There was a lot of pride going around this evening.

A Perry Maroon.

The 5K

The Annual Cherokee Strip 5K Run!
Handsome Man is out and ready!
As you can see~it's really early!
Really early!
Ready to Run!
Many of these runners have been doing this from the start.
There are a lot of, "Nice to see you," agains.
As I've mentioned~a lot of people come home for the 16th.
7:34 and they are lined up~
ready to the signal to race!
Some local High School Track Teams are lined up first.
Handsome Man is back there some where...
There he is!
I wish him good luck (from the side lines)!
((I'm better with a camera, than running.))
Handsom Man did very well, considering his training is mostly in the field.
61 degrees & 28:44.

A Parade!

I love a parade!
Each year our community hosts a parade to celebrate the
Cherokee Strip Land Run.
We get to town early to place our chairs on the square~
we "stake" our claim to a great spot to watch the parade.
(Handsome Man's family has a spot in the same place every year.)
Our high school band marches and plays our school song.
Home town people stand and clap and sing the song.
Other bands come from around the area and compete.
We have a lot of pride in our community!

The parade always begins with the presentation of colors;
it's so heartwarming to see everyone rise, place their hands on their hearts,
and men take off their hats and caps~to show respect for our
Nation's Military & Flag, the symbol of our freedom as they pass by.

And, as you can see there are many more flags displayed throughout the parade.  Lots of U.S. Flags and lots of pride!
We have a local museum that has many memorabilia
of our community's history.
There is also a One~Room Schoolhouse that many
schools from across the state come to visit and
reinact a school day from the past.
(And, yes~there is a school marm.)
Fire trucks and Flags!
(Also, lots and lots of sirens!)
The Super~Witch,
(it's much quieter this way!)
Oh, and yes~there is a carnival around the corner for more entertainment.
Not a part of the carnival...
But, yes, there were camels in our parade.
You know I'm partial to Green,
and I loved his sign, too!
Our parade closes with horses and...
the street cleaner.

Following the parade, families gather around the square and eat lunch from at least one of the many food vendors.  Many organizations have a tent and offer bar-b-que sandwiches or hamburgers.  We supported the Band Boosters this year.  Then, my daughter and I walked around and viewed many fine vendors with lots to sell; from clothing, jewelry, baskets to yes, even Sandy Candy.  After we toured and made our purchases (not~Sandy Candy) we splurged and had our once a year, Funnel Cake.  Yum!  It's a great time to catch up with old friends, many people come back home for the celebration.

It rained!

Another Friday, report...
Have you noticed???
Friday's are real weather makers.
Full moon...Dust Storm...Cool down & rain.
And we are not complaining with this past Friday's weather wake up.
Cooler temp's and muchly needed and appreciated rain were on the agenda for today.  We are loving it!
Handsome Man said we received about 3/10ths,
but as you can see the soy beans are loving the drink.
Even if it was a small one~
isn't it amazing how quickly everyting perks up!

Happy flowers greeted me on the way home,
"Hey, there!  Welcome home!"
"Don't we look pretty!"
(I'd swear they'd grown 6 inches!)
((And... yes, I know~it's not possible.))

Oh, and look!
There was a little mud on the road, too!
And... no~I'm not complaining.

This is Handsome Man's rain gauge.
No, I didn't lean my camera~it leans.
Not sure how accurate that works out to be...

This would be my rain gauge.
Yes, water in the bird bath.
Not as accurate~but it doesn't lean and the birds benefit too.

Friday's weather report,

County Fair

This is Fair Week.
I love this time of year,
our youth and adults get an opportunity to share their passions and talents.
It's a great time for our rural community to come together
and have some fun.
A time to shine...
4-H is an organization that promotes and encourages our youth
to learn about their world, provides experiences that
will allow their talents to bloom, and promotes leadership.
It is instrumental in getting young people started with exhibits for the Fair.

These aren't your ordinary cows.
They are pampered and primped for showing.
~Not your regular field cows;
they really are, "Outstanding in Their Field!"

Even bunnies get their day...
and sometimes a ribbon, too!

Best in Show!
Hand and Machine crafting...
Aren't these beautiful!
Gifts from the Ground...

Fair Week~It's an exciting week full of showing, judging, & appreciating.  Small town America at it's best!  It also means Fall is just around the corner.

Admiring the talents,
MFSD

Watchin'

Watchin'
There are some really cute ones out there.
I haven't worn one in years.
Years!
But, lately I've noticed how cute they are...
out and about on my friends.
"
So, for my birthday...
a friend gave me this one.
It's really cute and it does special things,
it lights up and catches the attention of admirers.
Oh, yes...it does tell the time, too.
(smile.)
I purchased this watch right before my birthday,
I think it makes a great sister for the green one.

I love all the adorable colors on the face.
It's a happy one, too!
And, no...it doesn't light up.
Both are made by Geneva.
Watch out,
Fun ahead!

Simple pleasures

Simple pleasures...
As I've mentioned before~
cooking is not one of my "things."
I do really like light and easy at the end of the day.
I have discovered Nature's Pride, Nutty Oat bread,
Sabra's Classic Hummus,
(which I doctor up with cilantro, dill, a touch of garlic, & celery seed)
add a little sliced turkey breast, and I've got a yummy sandwich.
To complete this, I add Crunchy Cheetos and a Diet Coke.
((Who would have thought I could say soooo much about a sandwich?))
(((I did say~simple pleasures.)))
This was a simple pleasure I had on Sunday afternoon.
Oh yeah...
Yep, mid~afternoon...
a good book...
a quiet house.
(The chocolate helps with the quiet house.)
((sort of...))

What's a simple pleasure for you?

Simply,
MFSD
